1. What is IELTS Speaking Test? The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a standardised exam intended to evaluate the language competency of non-native English speakers, includes the IELTS Speaking exam as one of its components. The purpose of the speaking exam is to gauge a test-taker’s proficiency in spoken English. A trained examiner normally conducts the IELTS Speaking Test in person in a face-to-face interview setting. It evaluates your capacity to communicate in a range of ordinary contexts, including talking, opining, imparting knowledge, and bringing up broad interests. The exam is divided into three sections: • Part 1: Interview and Introduction (4-5 minutes): The examiner identifies himself and wants you to do the same in this part. You could be questioned about well-known subjects, including your interests, studies, job, and daily schedule. • Part 2: A cue card with a subject and a list of prompts will be provided to you during Part 2’s Long Turn (3–4 minutes). You will have one minute to research and make notes before speaking for one to two minutes on the subject. This is sometimes referred to as the “long turn, ” since you must talk for a considerable amount of time. • Part 3: Discussion (4-5 minutes): The subject of Part 2 will be discussed in further detail by the examiner. You will need to give more thorough and extensive comments, expressing thoughts, going over concepts, and giving justifications for your points of view. • Your fluency, coherence, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammatical accuracy will all be evaluated throughout the speaking portion of the exam. In addition to the exams for listening, reading, and writing, it is one of the four parts of the IELTS exam. Your performance is graded on a scale of 1 to 9 for each component, and your overall IELTS score is the average of the points for all four parts. Regular speaking practice, familiarity with popular subjects, enhancing your vocabulary and pronunciation, and being accustomed to speaking under pressure are all important components of IELTS speaking test preparation. To build confidence and get feedback on their performance, many test-takers find it beneficial to take practice speaking examinations with an instructor or language partner.
